Preparing the canvas

Now you have all you materials gathered, lets begin.  Make sure you read the whole post before beginning – no nasty surprises that way!

Paint the canvas with a thin even layer of Gesso to begin.  Allow to dry completely – this will depend on where you live.  Hot dry climates will dry quicker than cold damp climates.  During summer here – Fremantle Western Australia – drying time is a couple of hours but when I lived in Darwin it was several days!

Repeat with another thin even layer of Gesso.  Allow to dry completely – leave over night at least.

We will apply the retarder and paint in the next post.
